It is great. Just letting everyone who is in 5th and 6th grade returning I'm am listening to the Mixed Company of Yale who came last year. There voices are so great! It amazes me how they can make all the sounds that you could just add with a computer. I wonder how many times they have to practice and make sure that everyone is singing on key!
I love this album Purple mostly because there voices are so amazing. On the Album there are some song that make you want to dance and sing along but other ones definitely make you wan't to sit down and think or relax. So far I love Mixed Company. They are Amazing to listen to.
What I've noticed is that most of there voices are usually not singing. There usually doing "doo" or "bop." It is very interesting to listen to. Also there are some of there songs that have sounds that sound like things you would make by playing with it on an audio thing. Most of them do make you want to dance. It still makes me so amazed that all there voices are all in tune. That must have taken so long to rehearse and get perfect. There is one person in the group that can sing so high it is amazing. They all make such pretty melodies all together. Just one little fun fact, The picture on there website was taken out on the patio at Stoneridge! The picture on the album is the same picture! I am still so amazed at how they make there music sound,
Some are very catchy such as "Hodja" "McDonalds Girl" "Walking in Memphis." But most of them are catchy so that is just the top of the list. Talk to every body later in the week.
Jade, I just looked at the Mixed Company website, and you're right! They took that picture at Stoneridge. I'm going to send the link to Camilla, 'cause I think she'll get a kick out of that. Good eyes. I'm glad you're enjoying listening to them. Good a cappella music is totally amazing. It's really fun to perform, too!
Hannah, do you think that in USV we could do a cappella piece? I think that everyone will really enjoy doing one song like that. Anyway, this time I listened to the other half of the album and what I have noticed is that towards the end most of the songs are much more down and quiet. They make you tired and sometimes even bored. But there are some songs that Iike that are quiet and calm like "Stars and Moon and Mandilin Moon" So far I love them and next time I blog I will blog more about them and how they got started so this week I still LOVE this album Purple. Hannah, where have you preformed a song that is cappella?
YALE MIXED COMPANY IS REALLY GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, today I listened to the whole album which took about maybe an hour and a half! There are 20 songs in the whole album. I love there music mostly because all the songs are totally different. What I noticed is as you get to the back of the album the songs seem to die down a little and they aren't as good to me. But they still are probably my fav. songs this year. There is one song called "Someone to Fall back On" and it is very calm and quiet but it is one of my favorites because it all really goes together and because it is calm and quiet. So far I still LOVE there music.
Like I said I would bring some info on them, I did. In 1998 Yale decided they wanted to make a small group of some kind of activity. So, they were torn between 2 ideas. Either a comedy or a cappella group. So they decided to do both. They then started to focus more on singing instead. They started singing at there college concerts. Now in there 28th year of being a group most of all the singers have sang in front of world leaders, produced 12 studio albums, and have sang on 5 continents! They are still going strong and leaving people when they graduate and new members when they start. I think that this the 2009-2010 group is the best! (But that is just me) :)
Jade, you're giving such wonderful information as you blog! Anytime you sing a song without instruments, it is a cappella music, but a group like Mixed Company does a cappella versions of popular songs, and that's a really fun style of a cappella. I will try to pick out a song like this for Upper School Voices to do next semester. It can be sort of tricky, but it's definitely fun.
My favorite song is, actually I have 3 favorite songs. Maybe even 4! Well my favorites are, "Hodja" and "Mandilin Moon" and "McDonalds Girl" and finally, "Walking in Memphis". To me, the rest are kinda boring. It is sometimes hard to keep intrest in the album because all the great and alive songs are in the beginning. Like I have said before, as the album goes on it gets even more tireing. But It is still pretty good.
What to me is weird is that having been able to watch them made me feel like i love them but now just listening to there music it makes the music sound much more less interesting. But that is just how I feel.
Lastly, I have been trying very hard to listen through the whole album and I have. What i learned is that if you try very hard then I kinda started to enjoy them more. They still aren't the best but they are pretty good. Not the best though!
Cool
