Hi Margot! I really like Switchfoot, but I actually haven't heard the "Hello Hurricane" album yet. It's their newest one. My favorite album of theirs is The Beautiful Letdown.
I listened to beautiful letdown,and as somebody else said, it was beautiful, but not a let down. One of the songs is "I dare you to move," which is one of Hannah's favorites.
I agree with your assessment of Switchfoot's theme, Margot! Jon Foreman, the lead singer/songwriter, has also done some solo albums. He is one of my favorite songwriters; I think his lyrics are so original and thoughtful. No favorite songs yet, Margot?
